Why have a Beach Wedding?

Beach weddings offer a great alternative to the expensive, headache-inducing traditional weddings that are still so common. A beach wedding is easier to plan, cheaper on the purse strings and more fun for everyone. By using the beach and not a licensed venue, you will have access to hundreds of beach locations so there will be a perfect one for you! And it will come naturally beautiful without having to add any extra decorations.

The Best Beaches to Elope in Cornwall

Famous for breathtaking beautiful beaches, Its no wonder that so many couples choose to Elope to Cornwall. Cornwall has one of the most stunning coastlines in the UK.  For never-ending rolling waves, dramatic, rugged cliffs and sandy beaches, the north coast has it all. The west coast is wild, wonderfully untamed and the south coastline is more serene and tranquil with sandy coves but thankfully, no matter where you’re based, you’re probably never more than 10 miles away from a breathtaking beach. No matter where you are staying, there will be a local beach within easy reach. With the total number of beaches in Cornwall exceeding 300, the variation is endless. From sweeping stretches of sandy shores, dramatic steep-cliffed coves with wild waves, white sands and turquoise waters, to surfing beaches and sheltered pebbled coves, you will be spoilt for choice. Cornwall has become a world famous Surfing destination over recent years. Try out the great surfing waves along the North Cornish coast where you can also attend a surf school if you’re feeling adventurous and want to try a fun activity while you are here for your beach wedding.

“I’ve fallen in love with adventures, so I begin to wonder, if that’s why I’ve fallen for you.”

Can i Get Married on

the Beach?

Yes, It is possible – in some locations!

A beach wedding with the gentle sound of the sea swirling around your ankles, toes sinking into wet sand as you stand against a backdrop of rugged cliffs, with the sun setting in front of you, is just so romantic.

In Scotland you can legally marry with your toes in the sand.  In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, you can only legally marry by the sea in a licensed venue on the beach with a solid roof. So you cannot legally marry on the beach without a licensed venue, nor can you marry in a tent or a marquee or any other temporary structure.

The good news is that with a Celebrant-led ceremony on one of our amazing secret and uncrowded beaches in Cornwall you can have your ‘non-legal’ wedding ceremony at any time and place that suits you. The legal bit (your marriage contract) can be done at the registry office in a short appointment where you say your contracting words and sign the register - all done and dusted in about 10 minutes.

By choosing a beach of your choice and forgoing the hefty price tag of some of the licensed beach venues, you will still be able to have the wedding of your dreams without the debt! To read our blog about Cornwall's top beaches click here! If you don’t want to be limited by legal restrictions and intend to have a meaningful ceremony where and how you like and in your unique way then these are your options: Get ‘married’ in Scotland where it's legal with a registered Humanist or Pagan Celebrant or go abroad where the laws are less restrictive or have the ‘wedding ceremony’ you really want on the beach and have a legally binding ‘marriage’ in a church or registry office before or after.

“The universe just fucking knows when souls are wired to wreck the world together!”

How Much Does a Beach Wedding Cost?

A beach wedding can be free!

However, there will be costs for your catering, photographers and your celebrant. It is better to have your beach wedding out-of-season. As there will be less crowds, you will still be able to

use most of the more popular beaches earlier in the day or at sunset. One or two weeks before the holiday season starts is ideal as you will save yourself money, but the weather should still

be good enough to enjoy your honeymoon after.

With the saving of not hiring a venue, you will be able to book a lovely meal somewhere fancy for any family and friends with you at a cost much less than the traditional reception. Another option would be to have a fun beach party reception right on the beach. You won’t have to move anywhere else for the reception, saving on travel costs and time. By calling in favours from family and friends, you could ask someone to make picnic hampers or a simple buffet which would probably cost less than a caterer. You could also just have the ceremony and forego a reception and go off and enjoy your day as you please.
